THE MOUNTAIN

El Pinar restaurant is perched high (2.5 kms up the mountain)
above the resort.
It offers great food with truly spectacular views. Transport is required to reach this restaurant
(and a clear head to negotiate the winding road down again!).
This is just a sample, there are many more to choose from!
Why not try some of the regional specialities?
• Zarzuela (fish and seafood medley)
• Miriscada (seafood medley)
• Parillada (grilled fish medley)
• Not forgetting of course - traditional Valencian Paella

LEISURE

There are two excellent and enjoyable 18 hole courses within easy reach. Panoramica (near Vinaros)
designed by Bernhard Langer, is some 40 minutes away. Mediterraneo (near Castellon) the home course of Sergio Garcia, is some 35 minutes away.

MORELLA

Discover the medieval town of Morella in the El Maestrazago
region, perched on high and crowned with a spectacular ruined
castle. En-route from resort visit the small hilltop town of Cervera
del Maestre and see local craftsman carving from olive wood
(souvenir opportunity). Once in Morella, take time to explore its
narrow (steep) winding cobbled streets lined with artisan stores,
bars, boutiques and restaurants. For those with the energy a
journey to the castle is memorable (and physically demanding) -
the views are truly incredible!. Winding your way back to resort
visit the old town of San Mateu and the mountains of Alcala.

VILLAFAMES AND CABANES

Wander through unspoilt valleys to the intriguing medieval town
of Villafames. Explore the maze of sloping streets, which lead to
view to Villafamesthe restored castle keep. Admire the stunning church and
museum of contemporary art housed in a 15th century mansion
house. See the old washhouse, which is still in use today! Enjoy a
traditional lunch of tapas and local beverages before continuing
your journey. Drive back to resort along the picturesque
mountain road winding slowly down to the beach at Torre la Sal,
where you can enjoy a stroll along the promenade with it's tiny
old beach houses and local bars.

PEÑISCOLA

Peñíscola (20 minutes drive), known as “Ciudad en la Mar” or City
in the Sea... was the setting for Valencia in the film ‘El Cid' starring
Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren. It has a fine monumental
heritage. Its 11th century battlements and ancient church arePeniscola castle
clearly visible from a great distance. Peñiscola's narrow cobbled
streets are filled with attractive shops and excellent restaurants. At
the fishing port each afternoon, a spectacular fish auction is held
where much of the fish served by the local hotels and restaurants is
bought. In season there is a nightly bazaar type market under the
castle walls and the area around the tourist office has artists, more
unusual souvenirs, punch and judy show, and street performers
This area is the liveliest, especially at weekends. The feast of
“Moros y Cristianos” is celebrated in Peniscola on September 8th

SHOPPING

SUPERMARKETS

There are several in the resort, a large Spar in the centre,
Isver's supermarket between Las Fuentas and Alcossebre( this
is marginally cheaper for wine and has a meat and cheese
counter) and Bar Cheers has a small supermarket in the
centre where you can get fresh milk and all things British,
should you wish. This is the only place that we have found
that sells fresh milk - this area of Spain only has long life milk
available as the norm.

FRESH BREAD AND PASTRIES
There are almost too many to mention – you could try a
different one each day!. One of the best is Manel's situated
on the street where the Medical Centre is. As you face it, it is
to the right and about 100 metres along.

PHARMACY
There are two in the resort, the main one is on the same block
as the large Spar supermarket. There is a further one in Las
Fuentas.

STREET MARKETS
There are weekly street markets in Alcossebre (Tuesday
evenings during the high season). Alcala de Xivert, (10 minutes
drive away) has a Friday morning market throughout the year.

FURTHER AFIELD
The shopping in the city's of Valencia, Barcelona and
Castellon is just about as good as it gets. Castellon is only 30
minutes away, Valencia is about one hour and Barcelona is
approximately 2 hours away by car. These journeys can be
made by train from Alcala de Xivert which is the main
administrative centre of the area.
